SEO Basics for Small Business: The 20% That Actually Matters Blog

SEO feels overwhelming because most guides are written for marketers with big budgets. Here is the stripped-down version — the 20% of SEO that produces 80% of results for a small business.

1. Match what people actually search

Your customers do not search for clever slogans; they search for plain phrases like "web developer in Sylhet" or "affordable e-commerce website." Put those exact phrases in your page titles, headings, and text — naturally, not stuffed.

2. One page per service

A single "Services" page listing ten things ranks for nothing. A dedicated page for each main service — with its own title and 300+ words — can rank for its own search term.

3. Get your Google Business Profile right

For local searches, your Google Business Profile often matters more than your website. Complete every field, add real photos, and ask happy customers for reviews.

4. Make it fast and mobile-friendly

Google measures how quickly your site loads and how it behaves on phones. A slow site ranks lower no matter how good the content is.

5. Earn a few real links

Links from real websites — local directories, industry blogs, suppliers, news mentions — tell Google you are legitimate. Five genuine links beat five hundred spammy ones.

What to ignore

Meta keywords, daily blogging without strategy, and anyone who promises "#1 ranking guaranteed." SEO is compound interest: small correct things, done consistently, for months.
